Drone Racing World Cup
The Race of Drones Oulu -event gathered more than 1400 people in the audience!
Drone Racing World Cup brought competitors from eight countries to Oulu, to the first Drone Racing World Cup event this year. Competitors came from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Italy, and Denmark and judging by the list of participants the quality of the competition was expected to be very high, and so it was. Most of the registered competitors were finalists at the World Championships.
The race took place at Ouluhalli Arena on the 12th of March, with BusinessOulu and FPV Finland (part of the Finnish Aeronautical Association) organizing. Racing went on from 11 a.m. till late afternoon, the final started around 6 p.m. There was some drama on the field as two drones crashed and caused a small fire, also in the final one drone crashed in the ground.
Drone racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It is a sport where the pilot flies a drone via FPV virtual goggles on a purpose-built course at speeds reaching 200 kilometers per hour. Excitement was great as the drones rocketed in the air and the competition was tight. 3rd place went to Swenglish from Sweden, 2nd place Snowyeti from Norway and the winner is ToPe from Latvia. congratulations to the top 3!
